The red fox centers its life on the daily hunt for food, unless a female is tending to young. Their main diet consists of rabbits, mice, lizards and insects, but will treat themselves to fruit when available. The are solitary hunters. They mark their territory with urine or feces and emit a strong odor when frightened or excited. Some people think it smells like a skunk! Preditors of the red fox are the lynx, coyotes,bear, and cougars. Now if we can only convince man, sometimes the greatest enemy of the fox, that their fur looks better on them than on us!
